Venture Global reveled this in a FERC filling dated August 13. The filling is related to Venture Global’s proposed CP2 LNG in Cameron Parish, Louisiana.
According to Venture Global, the company’s second project, Plaquemines LNG, has completed nearly 80 percent of the project’s construction.
Venture Global is targeting first production of LNG this Fall, with “exports of LNG on
a pre-commercial operation basis beginning soon thereafter,” it said.
In April, the company said it expects to start LNG production at its Plaquemines LNG export plant in mid-2024.
The company previously said it expects the commissioning process for the Plaquemines LNG terminal to take about 24 months.
Two phases
Venture Global took a final investment decision in May 2022 on the first phase of the Plaquemines project with a capacity of 13.3 mtpa and the related pipeline. It also secured $13.2 billion in project financing.
In March last year, the company sanctioned the second phase of the Plaquemines LNG export plant in Louisiana and also secured $7.8 billion in project financing.
The full project, including the second stage, will have a capacity of 20 mtpa coming from 36 modular units, configured in 18 blocks.
Venture Global’s Plaquemines LNG plant received in August last year its first liquefaction modules.
Baker Hughes ships these modular units to the US from its manufacturing facility in Italy, the same as the firm did for Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass project.
In December, Venture Global LNG completed raising the roof on the fourth and final storage tank.
The firm completed raising the roof on the first tank in February, the second tank in April, and the third tank in September.
McDermott’s unit CB&I won a contract from a unit of Venture Global to build the first two LNG storage tanks as part of the first phase while the second phase includes two tanks as well.
CP2 LNG
Venture Global currently exports LNG from its Calcasieu Pass LNG export terminal in Louisiana with a capacity of 10 mtpa.
Calcasieu Pass produced its first LNG on January 19, 2022, and the first commissioning cargo left the facility on March 1.
However, Venture Global has not yet declared the start of commercial operations.
Besides Calcasieu Pass and Plaquemines LNG, Venture Global is working on its proposed CP2 LNG project in Louisiana.
The CP2 LNG plant will be located next to Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass liquefaction plant.
It will have 18 liquefaction blocks, each with a capacity of about 1.1 mtpa of LNG, and also four 200,000-cbm full containment LNG storage tanks.
The US FERC has given the green light for this project in June.
Besides the FERC approval, CP2 LNG also needs the non-FTA export authorization from the US Department of Energy.
However, the Biden administration said in January it will “temporary pause” pending decisions for LNG export terminals.
The US paused pending decisions on exports of LNG to non-FTA countries until the DOE can update the underlying analyses for authorizations.
Venture Global’s initial implementation plan for CP2 LNG includes starting some construction work prior FID.
Following FERC approval, Venture Global expects onsite construction beginning in September this year, it said in the mentioned filling above.
This includes mobilization and site preparation, the test pile program for the LNG tanks, the test pile program for the balance of the terminal site, construction for the storm surge wall, and for use of contractor yards and also for mobilization for construction of the pipeline, it said.
CP2 LNG has secured binding 20-year offtake agreements for 9.25 mtpa of LNG with Jera, SEFE, EnBW, ExxonMobil, Chevron, Inpex, China Gas, and New Fortress Energy.
It recently agreed on terms to sell up to an additional 2 mtpa of LNG to D.TRADING, a subsidiary of the DTEK Group of Ukraine.
