According to a statement by ExxonMobil, Ammann will succeed Liam Mallon, who will retire as president of ExxonMobil Upstream and vice president of ExxonMobil, effective February 1, 2025.
Also, Ammann will continue as vice president of ExxonMobil to succeed Mallon.
ExxonMobil’s board also has appointed Barry Engle as president of low carbon solutions (LCS) and vice president for ExxonMobil, effective January 1, 2025.
Ammann joined ExxonMobil in 2022 as president of low carbon solutions to grow the company’s low carbon solutions business and focus on delivering profitable, large-scale emissions-reduction solutions for key industries.
He had previously been chief executive officer of Cruise, which is majority-owned by General Motors (GM), in 2018 and was appointed president of GM in 2014.
“These appointments continue the company’s approach of leveraging the diverse skills and experiences of a very accomplished executive team to bring fresh perspectives and approaches to each of our exceptionally talented organizations,” ExxonMobil CEO Darren Woods said.
“This has served us well over the last several years and is a useful, innovative way to strengthen our leadership teams, challenge conventions, and broaden our people,” he said.
LNG business
ExxonMobil’s primary businesses include upstream, product solutions, and low carbon solutions.
The company has five upstream businesses: unconventional, deepwater, heavy oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and conventional.
ExxonMobil has a large portfolio of LNG projects around the globe, including the PNG LNG project in Papua New Guinea.
In the US, the company and state-owned QatarEnergy are building the giant Golden Pass LNG export terminal in Texas
Woods recently said that the launch of the LNG export terminal with a capacity of more than 18 mtpa could be postponed until 2026.
ExxonMobil and its partners recently also awarded the front-end engineering design (FEED) contracts for the Rovuma LNG project in Mozambique.
The LNG plant will have an overall production capacity of 18 mtpa.
