Worley secures BP contract extension in Oman

Australian engineering firm Worley and its joint venture partner Special Technical Services have secured an extension from UK-based energy giant BP for their contract in Oman.

Under the three-year contract extension, the JV will continue to provide engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services to BP’s Block 61 (Khazzan and Ghazeer) gas assets in Oman, Worley said in a statement.

The Australian firm did not provide the price tag of the deal.

The initial five-year contract was awarded to Special Technical Services Worley Integrated Solutions (SWIS) in 2018, while BP further extended the contract for two years in 2022.

Worley said the services include ongoing field development of BP’s Block 61 gas field in Oman as well as brownfield modifications of operational assets including the central processing facility.

According to Worley, the gas from Block 61 is distributed for domestic consumption via Oman’s national gas grid, while also boosting availability of feedstock supply for Oman LNG.

Last year, state-owned producer Oman LNG signed a deal to supply liquefied natural gas to BP.

Under the SPA, Oman LNG will supply 1 million metric tonnes per year of LNG to BP for a period of nine years starting in 2026.

US engineer KBR recently secured a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for the expansion of Oman LNG’s Qalhat LNG complex in Sur.

Under the FEED contract, KBR will provide engineering services for the complex’s fourth LNG train, which will have a capacity of 3.8 million tons per annum.

The project will involve the addition or expansion of utilities, an LNG tank, the jetty, and associated infrastructure.

In July, Oman’s Ministry of Energy and Minerals said Oman LNG plans to add a new liquefaction train at its three-train Qalhat complex by 2029.

The new train will boost Oman’s LNG production to 15.2 mtpa.
