Germany’s SEFE seals Angola LNG supply deal

German gas importer Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE) has signed a deal with LNG producer Angola LNG to buy LNG cargoes from the latter for delivery in 2026.

Under the deal, Angola LNG will supply to SEFE half a million tonnes of LNG, equivalent to eight LNG cargoes scheduled for 2026.

SEFE said in a statement the LNG supples from Angola can be delivered to a “wide range of destinations at SEFE’s discretion.”

Angola LNG, a joint venture between Chevron, Azule Energy, a joint venture of BP, and Eni, Sonangol, and TotalEnergies, has been producing LNG since 2013.

Last year, Angola LNG shipped its 400th cargo of LNG since the launch of the 5.2 mtpa Soyo plant in 2013.

Over the past years, SEFE has frequently procured LNG from Angola LNG on the spot market, appreciating the reliability of its deliveries, the company said.

Frederic Barnaud, CCO at SEFE said a diversified and flexible portfolio is “crucial for ensuring smooth deliveries of LNG in Germany and Europe.”

“This mid-term 2026 delivery contract with Angola LNG perfectly complements our existing term and spot supply mix,” he said.

SEFE LNG deals

The German government took over SEFE, previously Gazprom Germania, in November 2022 saying the move is necessary to protect its energy security due to Russia’s ongoing war in Ukraine.

Earlier this year, SEFE delivered its first LNG cargo to Germany using its booked slot in the Wilhelmshaven FSRU-based LNG terminal.

Last year, SEFE’s unit Wingas signed a deal with US LNG exporter Venture Global to purchase 2.25 mtpa of LNG from the latter’s planned CP2 LNG project.

In March this year, state-owned producer Oman LNG and SEFE finalized their previously announced LNG supply deal for 0.4 million tonnes per annum of LNG between 2026 and 2029.

Most recently, SEFE and UAE’s Adnoc signed a sales and purchase agreement for Ruwais LNG volumes.

Under the 15-year deal, Adnoc will supply 1 mtpa of LNG to SEFE Marketing and Trading Singapore, a subsidiary of SEFE.

Also, the LNG supplies will primarily be sourced from the Ruwais LNG project, with deliveries expected to start in 2028 upon the start of its commercial operations.
