Gladstone LNG exports almost flat in August

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports from the Gladstone port in Australia’s Queensland were almost flat in August compared to the same month last year, according to the monthly data by Gladstone Ports Corporation.

About 1.98 million tonnes of LNG or 31 cargoes left the three Gladstone terminals on Curtis Island last month, GPC’s data shows.

This compares to 1.98 million tonnes of LNG or 30 cargoes in August 2024.

August LNG exports rose compared to 1.81 million tonnes of LNG or 28 cargoes in July this year.

Curtis Island hosts the Santos-operated GLNG plant, the ConocoPhillips-led APLNG terminal, and Shell’s QCLNG facility.

These are the only LNG export facilities on Australia’s east coast.

China volumes drop

Most of last month’s LNG exports (1,196,165 tonnes) landed in China, an 8.7 percent decrease from the previous year.

Moreover, Gladstone LNG exports to South Korea rose to 417,764 tonnes from 240,679 tonnes in August 2024, while Malaysian volumes increased to 189,278 tonnes from 182,625 tonnes in August last year.

Volumes to Japan, Thailand, and India reached 68,224 tonnes, 57,269 tonnes, and 54,211 tonnes, respectively.

Gladstone LNG exports rose 4.7 percent in 2024 compared to the previous year, GPC’s data previously showed.

The three terminals shipped about 24.04 million tonnes of LNG or 364 cargoes in 2024.

This compares to 22.97 million tonnes of LNG or 350 cargoes in 2023, and 22.64 million tonnes of LNG or 354 cargoes in 2022.
