Baker Hughes scores contract for fourth Rio Grande LNG train

US energy services firm Baker Hughes has secured a contract from compatriot engineering company Bechtel to supply main liquefaction equipment for Train 4 of NextDecade’s Rio Grande LNG facility in the Port of Brownsville, Texas.

Baker Hughes said on Thursday the award builds on a previously announced framework agreement for Baker Hughes’ gas turbine and refrigerant compressor technology and contractual services agreements for Trains 4 through 8.

Replicating the technology solutions provided for the first three LNG trains, the Train 4 order includes two frame 7 gas turbines, band six centrifugal compressors.

Baker Hughes said these solutions deliver efficiency and lower emissions, supporting an additional LNG capacity of approximately 6 mtpa.

The firm did not provide the price tag of the deal.

NextDecade just made a final investment decision on the fourth train at its Rio Grande LNG facility in Texas.

The firm closed financial transactions to fully fund Train 4 and related infrastructure, and issued a full notice to proceed to Bechtel for the unit.

Moreover, Train 4 will bring the total expected LNG production capacity under construction at Rio Grande LNG to approximately 24 mtpa.

The unit is commercially supported by 4.6 mtpa of 20-year LNG sale and purchase agreements (SPAs) with Adnoc, TotalEnergies, and Aramco.

The guaranteed substantial completion date for Train 4, as well as the date of first commercial delivery (DFCD) under the Train 4 LNG SPAs, is anticipated in the second half of 2030.
