MSC’s LNG-fueled duo launched in China

China’s Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard has launched MSC’s two LNG dual-fuel containerships with a capacity of 10,300 teu.

According to a statement by the shipbuilder on Thursday, the two launched vessels are MSC Maria Renata and MSC Maria Laura.

These are the first two vessels in a series of ten ships with a capacity of 10,300 teu.

Simultaneously with the launch, the shipyard held steel-cutting ceremonies for the ninth and tenth vessels (hulls CHB2045 and CHB2046) in this series.

They measure 299.95 meters in length and 45.6 meters in width, and have a design speed of 20 knots

The ships were designed by CIMC ORIC, a subsidiary of China International Marine Containers (CIMC).

MSC recently expanded its commitment with an additional order for six LNG dual-fuel containerships with a larger capacity of 11,500 teu at the same shipyard.

Zhoushan Changhong previously said that MSC has 36 LNG dual-fuel vessels on order at the yard.
