Canada’s Woodfibre LNG project 65 percent complete

Woodfibre LNG's 2.1 mtpa LNG export facility near Squamish in Canada's British Columbia is 65 percent complete following the arrival of its powerhouse module at the site, the 16th module delivered for the project to date.

According to a statement by the joint venture of Pacific Energy and Enbridge, the arrival of the powerhouse module comes just a week after the project received its liquefaction module.

The new module arrived from China aboard the heavy cargo vessel Dongbang Giant 8 on March 17.

Weighing more than 4,200 metric tonnes, the powerhouse module will serve solely as a power and control system, receiving electricity from BC Hydro and serving as the central hub for managing and distributing electrical power for compressors on site that are central to the liquefaction process.

With all 19 modules expected on site this spring, this arrival marks another important step toward completing the Woodfibre LNG facility, the company said.

In May last year, Woodfibre LNG took delivery of the first seven modules from China at the site of its LNG export facility.

China’s Qingdao McDermott Wuchuan (QMW), a joint venture consisting of McDermott and China State Shipbuilding Corporation, built and shipped these modules.

While construction on-site began in September 2023, the LNG project has adopted a modular construction approach to enhance efficiency and meet its construction timeline.

The JV plans to complete the facility, which will have a storage capacity of about 250,000 cbm, in 2027.
