According to a filing with the stock exchange, Evergreen’s board has approved an order for six LNG dual-fuel containerships with a capacity of 24,000 teu.
South Korea’s Hanwha Ocean will build these vessels, adding to the six vessels Evergreen ordered at the shipbuilder last year.
Evergreen said the container vessels will each cost between $262 million and $295 million.
This put the total price between $1.57 billion and $1.77 billion.
Evergreen did not provide further details.
In addition to these Hanwha vessels, Evergreen confirmed an order in November last year for 14 LNG dual-fuel container vessels, each with a capacity of 14,000 teu.
South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries and China’s Guangzhou Shipyard International (GSI) will build these vessels worth up to $2.87 billion.
Prior to this order, GSI also won an order for five LNG dual-fuel vessels, along with the first batch of Hanwha vessels.
The February 2025 order was the first order for LNG dual-fuel vessels for Evergreen, which has previously mainly focused on ordering methanol-powered ships.
