Seaside LNG appoints new leadership team

Houston-based LNG bunkering player Seaside LNG, backed by Arroyo Investors, has appointed a new leadership team to guide the company's next chapter of growth.

Seaside LNG said in a statement that the new C-suite leadership team “represents a combined century of specialized experience spanning LNG liquefaction, regasification, maritime infrastructure, commercial strategy, and energy finance — the depth required to lead North America’s foremost LNG bunkering company as the market accelerates toward a projected $15+ billion industry by 2030.”

Douglas Shanda, CEO of Seaside LNG, who has more than 30 years of energy sector leadership, including executive roles at Cheniere and as president and CEO of Mexico Pacific, said this is a “defining moment” for the company.

“We have built the infrastructure, assembled the fleet, and now we have the leadership team to match our ambition to grow our established platform. As LNG demand across the shipping industry reaches historic levels, Seaside is the only fully integrated platform on the continent capable of delivering LNG from liquefaction to vessel — safely, reliably, at scale and on schedule,” he said.

Drawing on over two decades of international and domestic experience in large-scale oil and gas infrastructure, CFO Jason Owens oversees project execution, construction planning, safety, and system completions, advancing Seaside’s integrated LNG delivery capabilities across the US, Seaside LNG said.

Moreover, CFO Andrew Bonnarens brings expertise in energy infrastructure finance to Seaside LNG, providing the financial leadership and capital strategy required to support the company’s continued fleet expansion and market growth across North America, the company said.

Bringing more than 30 years of experience in domestic and international energy sectors, including 20 years in the global LNG industry, CFO Bryan Frey leads Seaside LNG’s commercial development strategy, LNG supply and marketing, and long-term revenue growth, Seaside LNG added.

LNG bunkering fleet

Last year, Seaside LNG’s LNG bunkering barge, Clean Canaveral, completed its 200th LNG bunkering operation since 2022.

In March 2022, the 5,500-cbm Clean Canaveral, owned by Seaside LNG’s bunkering company Polaris New Energy, completed its first operation in Jacksonville.

US-based Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding built the LNG bunkering barge, while Master Boat Builders built the tug named Polaris, which was joined with the LNG bunkering barge.

Fincantieri Bay also delivered the 5,500-cbm LNG bunkering barge, Clean Everglades, which is a sister ship to Clean Canveral, to Seaside LNG in 2023.

The barge features four 1,375-cbm IMO type C tanks and utilizes a cargo handling system designed and developed by Wartsila.

In addition to these barges, Seaside bought North America’s first LNG bunkering barge, Clean Jacksonville, from Tote Maritime Puerto Rico in 2023.

Built by Conrad, this LNG bunkering barge has no propulsion, and it features one 2,200-cbm GTT LNG tank.

Seaside LNG also holds a stake in JAX LNG, a 50/50 joint venture between the company and Pivotal LNG, and the operator of the first small-scale shoreside LNG facility in the US, with the ability to load LNG fuel for both marine vessels and trucks.

The JAX LNG plant includes two liquefaction trains with a combined capacity of 360,000 gallons per day along with two LNG storage tanks that provide 4 million gallons of onsite storage.
