HD Hyundai Heavy scores $501 million LNG carrier order

South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries has won a contract worth approximately $501 million to build two liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

HD Hyundai Heavy said on Thursday that it will build the two LNG tankers for an owner in Oceania.

Hyundai Heavy will deliver the vessels by March 2029.

The order is valued at approximately 743.9 million won ($501 million), or approximately $250.5 million per vessel.

HD Hyundai Heavy did not reveal any additional information regarding the new order.

According to brokers, European alternative asset management platform Hayfin is behind this order.

LNG Prime could not verify this by the time this article was published.

Including this order, HD Hyundai Heavy booked ten LNG carrier orders this year.

This includes eight LNG carriers ordered by Japan’s NYK and KKR-backed Ocean Yield for charter to US LNG exporter Cheniere.

HD Hyundai Heavy had 52 LNG carriers in its backlog as of the end of March this year.
