Samsung Heavy bags new contract to build one LNG carrier

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries said it has secured a new order to build one liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier.

Samsung Heavy said in a stock exchange filing it would build the vessel for an Oceania-based owner.

The yard did not reveal the name of the company behind the order.

Moreover, the contract has a price tag of 223.6 billion won ($193.5 million), the shipbuilder said.

Samsung Heavy added it would deliver the ship by April 2024.

Including the newest contract, the shipbuilder won orders worth $6.7 billion so far this year, reaching 74 percent of its annual target. These include seven LNG carriers.

Samsung Heavy has earlier this month revealed an order from an Oceania-based owner for three 180,000-cbm LNG carriers.

Brokers reported that Denmark’s Celsius Shipping could be the owner behind this order. Celsius has already ordered four 180,000-cbm vessels at Samsung Heavy and it has recently taken delivery of the third ship in this batch.
