Italian contractor Saipem won a deal to work on a pipeline that will connect Woodside’s Scarborough project to the second Pluto LNG train.
Besides this contract, Saipem said in a statement it would also work on ExxonMobil’s Yellowtail development project located offshore Guyana. Both of the contracts have a price tag of $1.1 billion.
Saipem has received the notice to proceed from Woodside for the Scarborough project to work on the export trunkline coating and installation of the pipeline that would connect the gas field with the onshore plant, it said.
Woodside made in November the final investment decision on the Scarborough project and Pluto LNG Train 2 developments worth about $12 billion. BHP Petroleum also owns a 26.5 percent stake in the Scarborough JV.
The approval also includes new domestic gas facilities and modifications to the first Pluto 4.9 mtpa train on Western Australia’s Burrup Peninsula.
Pluto Train 2 will process gas from the Scarborough offshore gas resource and have a capacity of about 5 mtpa.
The new train will be connected to the field via the 430 km export trunkline with a 36”/32” diameter.
Saipem’s work includes coating, transportation and installation of the trunkline, at a maximum water depth of 1,400 meters.
The company said it would also work on the fabrication and installation of the line structures and of the pipeline end termination in 950-meter water depth.
Saipem expects offshore operations to start in mid-2023. It plans to mainly use its 325 meters long pipelaying vessel Castorone for the job.
