Zvezda to deliver another LNG-powered Aframax tanker to Rosneft

Russian Zvezda yard is continuing with the construction of a series of LNG-powered Aframax tankers for Rosneft’s unit Rosnefteflot.

The 114,000-dwt crude oil tanker Vladimir Vinogradov hit the water for the first time in August last year and completed its sea trials in December, according to Zvezda.

Its AIS data showed on Monday that it was still located at Zvezda’s yard in the town of Bolshoy Kamen in the Russian Far East.

This is the second LNG-powered Aframax tanker in a series of twelve vessels out of which Rosnefteflot ordered ten. Russia’s Sovcomflot ordered two ships in this batch and chartered them to Rosnefteflot.

Zvezda is building these vessels in cooperation with South Korea’s Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries.

The first vessel in this series, Vladimir Monomakh, embarked on its maiden voyage in January last year, Rosnefteflot previously said.

These are the first Russian-built Aframax tankers and they will all feature WinGD LNG propulsion, but they can also run on HFO.

The ice-class 1A tankers will be 250 meters long and 44 meters wide.
