Spanish engineering firm Sener said it has won a contract to boost sendout capacity at the Dutch Gate LNG terminal in the Rotterdam port.
Gate, owned by Gasunie and Vopak, currently has a capacity of 12 bcm or 8.8 mtpa of LNG.
In October last year, Gate revealed plans to increase the capacity to 13.5 bcm from 2024, as part of a deal with Germany’s Uniper.
Sener said in a statement on Wednesday it would carry out the engineering services, as well as the procurement and construction management (EPCM) of the sendout capacity expansion works.
These works consist of the installation of a vaporizer and a high-pressure LNG pump together with all its associated facilities, such as equipment foundations, interconnection of piping and racks, power supply and process control.
In addition, a new seawater pump will also be supplied.
As part of the EPCM services, Sener said it would develop the required detailed engineering, together with the procurement management of all supplies, and would be in charge of the construction supervision.
Sener did not reveal the price tag of the deal.
This new contract follows a deal Sener won from Gate in October 2020 related to the maintenance and improvement activities. The firm completed this contract in 2021.
Sener was also part of the consortium that delivered the LNG facility back in 2011.
Dutch LNG imports to rise significantly
Besides this increase, Gasunie and Vopak are planning to further boost capacity at the Gate LNG terminal.
The facility has been working above its nameplate capacity for months due to high prices in Europe and as European countries look to slash reliance on Russian gas supplies.
Besides Gate, Gasunie will later this year launch the second Dutch LNG import facility in the Eemshaven port, operated by Groningen Seaports.
This terminal will host two chartered floating storage and regasification units.
Belgium’s Exmar and Gasunie signed a five-year charter deal for the 120 meters long FSRU S188 in March. This barge-based FSRU already arrived in Rotterdam.
In addition to this unit, Gasunie also signed a charter deal for a larger FSRU with US LNG player New Fortress Energy.
The 174,000-cbm Golar Igloo should arrive in Eemshaven in August, such as the first unit.
