PTT’s Nong Fab regasification plant in Thailand has received its first commissioning cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG), according to Italian contractor Saipem.
Saipem said in a statement that the facility located in Mueang Rayong district had begun offloading LNG from a vessel on June 18.
The firm did not reveal the source of the cargo or the name of the vessel.
According to its AIS data provided by VesselsValue, the 210,100-cbm Q-Flex LNG carrier, Al Oraiq, chartered by Qatargas and owned by a joint venture of Nakilat and K Line, delivered the cargo from Qatar.
Saipem expects full commissioning and start-up of the new facility within 2022, thus providing the country with a stable and reliable energy supply, in response to the increasing power demand in Thailand.
PTT LNG, a unit of the state-owned oil and gas company, awarded the $925 million EPC contract to build the LNG terminal to a joint venture consisting of Saipem and CTCI Corporation back in 2018.
The scope of work of the project, which kicked off in July 2018, includes two 250,000-cbm LNG storage tanks, the regas facility with a capacity of 7.5 mtpa, as well as a six kilometers long jetty.
Saipem claims this is the longest LNG jetty in the world while the tanks are some of the world’s largest.
This is the second LNG import terminal for PTT that already operates the Map Ta Phut facility with a capacity of 11 mtpa.
PTT renamed this facility to Map Ta Phut Terminal 1 and the Nong Fab plant to Map Ta Phut Terminal 2.
