LNG producer Qatargas, a unit of QatarEnergy, confirmed it has delivered the first LNG cargo to PTT’s second LNG import terminal in Thailand.
According to a statement by Qatargas on Wednesday, the firm loaded the commissioning cargo in Ras Laffan on June 4 on the 210,000-cbm Q-Flex LNG carrier, Al Oraiq.
The LNG carrier, chartered by Qatargas and owned by a joint venture of Nakilat and K Line, delivered the shipment to Thailand’s Map Ta Phut LMPT2 LNG terminal, previously known as Nong Fab terminal, on June 18.
LNG Prime reported on this development on June 27. Italian contractor Saipem did not reveal at that time any information regarding the cargo but Al Oraiq’s AIS data showed that the vessel brought the shipment.
This new LNG import facility is located on the east coast of the Gulf of Thailand, between Sattahip and Rayong, approximately 220 km from Bangkok.
Also, the terminal’s nominal capacity is 7.5 million tons of LNG per annum (Mtpa), and it can receive vessels with a capacity between 125,000 cbm and 264,000 cbm.
It also features two storage tanks – each with an overall capacity of 250,000 cubic meters.
Qatargas said it has established a “strong partnership” with Thailand since May 2011 when it commissioned PTT’s first Map Ta Phut LNG terminal.
To-date, Qatargas has contributed to commissioning 26 new LNG terminals worldwide since 2008, it said.
