French LNG containment giant GTT has secured approvals in principle from Japan’s classification society ClassNK for two LNG-powered vessel designs and other tech.
ClassNK granted AIPs for a 12,500-cbm LNG dual-fuel VLCC concept fitted with GTT’s Mark III Flex system, and an 8,000-ceu LNG dual-fuel PCTC concept with ammonia-ready notation.
In addition, GTT won approval for an LNG fuel tank concept with ammonia-ready notation that includes material compatibility with ammonia, risk assessment, and boil-off gas management, according to a statement by ClassNK.
The classification society also approved GTT’s recycool system for LNG-fueled vessels.
This system allows reliquefaction of LNG evaporation in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and economic losses, the statement said.
ClassNK said it has carried out the verification on those accomplishments in line with its rules and its guidelines for ships using alternative fuels.
Among the above, the AiP for recycool marked a world-first AiP for a system of its kind, according to ClassNK.
