US LNG exporter Cheniere is getting closer to the launch of the sixth production train at its Sabine Pass plant in Louisiana.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) said in a letter dated June 29 it had approved Cheniere’s request to introduce gas and commission the Train 6 fuel gas system.
Cheniere’s chief executive Jack Fusco said in May the firm had still expected to commission the sixth unit at Sabine Pass by the end of 2021.
Moreover, the company expects substantial completion of the unit in the first half of 2022.
The 25 mtpa Sabine Pass plant has five operational trains and is currently the largest such facility in the US.
Bechtel is building the sixth train which will add 5 mtpa of capacity to the facility.
In total, this is the ninth train the engineering giant is building for Cheniere, including the Corpus Christi plant where Bechtel handed over the third train earlier this year.
