BW LNG’s carrier, BW Lilac, has rescued a German couple in distress on a sailing vessel offshore Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.
According to a statement by the US Coast Guard, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew medevaced the German couple on Monday from the Malta-flagged 173,400-cbm, BW Lilac, some 110 miles (177 kilometers) north of Aguadilla, Puerto Rico.
“The Jayhawk aircrew transported the man and woman, reportedly in their 60s, to the Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Regional Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where emergency medical personnel received and transported them to the “Centro Medico” Hospital in San Juan,” the statement said.
Also, they reportedly sustained injuries aboard their sailing vessel and required a higher level of care ashore.
BW Lilac crew responded to the call on Saturday
Coast Guard watchstanders in Sector San Juan received a request from the International Emergency Response Coordination Center at 9:45p.m., Saturday, to medevac the master of the sailing vessel, who had sustained a leg injury.
Moreover, watchstanders conducted an Emergency Group Call, EGC, to alert maritime traffic near the distress.
The BW Lilac crew responded to the EGC and diverted from their transit to assist the mariners, the statement said.
“Once on scene in 12-foot seas, approximately 340 nautical miles north of Puerto Rico, the BW Lilac crew embarked the mariners and reported to the Coast Guard that the woman had sustained a broken wrist,” the statement said.
Upon rendezvous with the LNG carrier BW Lilac, the Jayhawk aircrew hoisted both patients safely aboard the aircraft, it said.
BW Lilac’s AIS data provided by VesselsValue shows that the 2018-built vessel is on its way to the US following a delivery in Spain’s Huelva.
During the last twelve months, the vessel mostly delivered US LNG volumes to Spanish terminals, the data shows.
