Peru LNG shipped five cargoes to Europe in May

Peru LNG’s 4.45 mtpa liquefaction plant at Pampa Melchorita has shipped five cargoes to Europe in May, according to state-owned Perupetro.

PeruPetro said that all of the shipments in May were sent to the UK. However, the 173,600-cbm Castillo de Santisteban, which left the LNG plant on May 9, changed its course from the UK to Spain and was anchored off Huelva early on Friday, its AIS data provided by VesselsValue shows.

The five cargoes in May totaled about 363,836 tonnes of LNG, PeruPetro’s data shows.

These volumes can not be compared to the last year as the LNG facility was offline in May 2021 due to issues on a compressor.

In April this year, the LNG plant sent four cargoes to the UK and two to South Korea. These exports totaled about 425,186 tonnes.

In total, the plant sent 673 LNG cargoes since 2010, the data shows.

US-based Hunt Oil holds a 50 percent operating stake in the Pampa Melchorita LNG plant, while SK and Marubeni have 20 percent and 10 percent, respectively.

LNG giant Shell also holds a 20 percent stake and takes all the volumes produced at the facility.
