From October 20 to October 27, Hai Gang Wei Lai completed five LNG refueling operations and one loading operation, with a total of 23,292 cbm of LNG, according to SSES, a unit of China’s terminal operator Shanghai International Port (SIPG) and Shenergy.
The operations included the inaugural LNG bunkering of PIL’s first LNG dual-fuel containership in China, as well as the fueling of a CMA CGM containership and a PCTC owned by Hoegh Autoliners.
The ship-to-ship bunkering operation of PIL’s vessel took place at the Yangshan port in Shanghai on October 26.
During the operation, PIL’s 14,000-teu Kota Eagle received about 8,000 cbm of LNG from Hai Gang Wei Lai.
In addition to bunkering Kota Eagle, SSES delivered LNG to a CMA CGM containership and a PCTC owned by Hoegh Autoliners.
SSES said that Singapore’s PIL is the second shipping company to sign a long-term LNG refueling service agreement with SSES.
SSES previously signed a long-term contract with French shipping giant CMA CGM.
The firm completed the first LNG bunkering operation in March 2022 under the charter deal with CMA CGM.
Since then, SSES completed more than 128 bonded LNG bunkering operations in Shanghai.
With these refueling operations, SSES has delivered a total of 730,000 cbm of bonded LNG.
Earlier this year, SSES completed the first bunkering operation to an MSC containership with the large LNG bunkering vessel, Hai Gang Wei Lai.
In April, SIPG also signed a deal with South Korea’s HMM to bunker its vessels with LNG and methanol.
SSES also delivers LNG fuel to vessels owned by Eastern Pacific Shipping.
