According to a statement by CNOOC Gas & Power, the main construction of the fifth LNG storage tank was completed on December 1.
Earlier this year, CNOOC’s unit completed lifting the roof on this LNG tank.
CNOOC Gas & Power said that the main structure of all of the five 270,000 cubic meters LNG storage tanks is now complete.
With this, the tank LNG project was transferred from “civil construction to installation”, according to the company.
The firm did not say when it expects to commission the tanks.
The LNG tanks are 62.6 meters high and are nearly 100 meters in diameter.
They all feature CNOOC’s CGTank core storage tank technology.
The state-owned energy giant built the tanks as part of the third expansion phase of the Ningbo LNG facility.
CNOOC previously completed all of the 270,000-cbm LNG storage tanks at its Binhai LNG import terminal in Jiangsu, and it is also building five 270,000-cbm tanks at the Zhuhai LNG import terminal in Guangdong.
CNOOC claims these 270,000-cbm LNG tanks are the world’s largest onshore LNG tanks.
Earlier this year, the Ningbo LNG import facility received the 600th cargo of LNG since the launch of the plant in 2012.
The LNG terminal currently has a capacity of 6 mtpa and six LNG tanks with a total capacity of 960,000 cbm.
CNOOC previously said the third expansion phase will boost the capacity to 12 mtpa and is expected to be operational in 2025.
The company also previously said that the third phase includes the construction of six storage tanks.
