GTT received the orders during the third quarter of 2024.
Under the first order, Samsung Heavy contracted GTT to design tanks of four 174,000-cbm LNG carriers.
These vessels will be fitted with GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system.
Also, the delivery of the vessels is scheduled between the second and third quarters of 2028, GTT said.
GTT said the second order, placed with another Korean shipyard, also covers four LNG carriers.
The firm did not reveal the name of the shipyard.
The 174,000-cbm vessels will be equipped with a membrane containment system from the NO96 series.
According to GTT, the delivery of the vessels is scheduled between the second and fourth quarters of 2028.
GTT said both of the yards will build these LNG carriers for an undisclosed shipowner.
Adnoc L&S
These orders are probably related to the eight vessels Adnoc Logistics & Services, a unit of UAE’s energy giant Adnoc, ordered at Samsung Heavy and Hanwha Ocean.
Each of the shipbuilding deals include four firm vessels and also one optional LNG carrier for a total of 10 vessels, Adnoc L&S said on July 1.
The shipbuilding deals are worth $2.5 billion (AED 9.2 billion), according to the company.
Also, the LNG carriers will each feature MEGA and XDF2.2 engines.
The vessels will be time chartered to Adnoc Group subsidiaries for a period of 20 years, it said.
Adnoc L&S said the new vessels will increase the company’s fleet of LNG carriers from 14 to at least 22 vessels.
Samsung Heavy and Hanwha Ocean also announced the new deals in separate fillings to the stock exchange.
Each of the shipbuilders said they will build four LNG carriers for a Middle East owner for about $1.04 billion, or about $259 million per vessel.
Samsung Heavy will deliver the ships by August 2028, while Hanwha Ocean will deliver the ships by October 2028.
GTT’s orders
GTT received orders for 52 LNG carriers in the first half of this year, including 18 giant LNG vessels.
The company said in its financial report in July that deliveries of these LNG carriers will take place between 2026 and 3031.
The firm booked orders for 25 LNG carriers in the first quarter and 27 LNG carriers in the second quarter.
These include the 18 271,000-cbm QC-Max LNG carriers ordered at China’s Hudong-Zhonghua as part of QatarEnergy’s massive shipbuilding program.
Besides LNG carriers, GTT won orders for four large-capacity ethane carriers, one FSRU, and one FLNG in the first half of 2024.
