GTT scores new LNG tank gig in China

France’s GTT has secured a new tank design order from Chinese shipbuilder Jiangnan for Shandong Marine Energy’s four liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

GTT announced on Monday that it received the order in the first quarter of 2026

The French firm will design the vessels’ cryogenic tanks, each with a total capacity of 175,000 cbm.

GTT said the tanks will feature its Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

Delivery of the vessels is expected between the third quarter of 2028 and the fourth quarter of 2029.

China’s Shandong Marine ordered these four LNG carriers from compatriot shipbuilder Jiangnan on January 30.

Following delivery, these vessels will be chartered to a unit of UK-based LNG giant Shell.

Shandong Marine’s affiliates previously placed orders with Jiangnan for two LNG carriers and very large ethane carriers (VLECs).

In 2023, Taiping & Sinopec Financial Leasing (TSFL), a non-wholly owned subsidiary of China Taiping Insurance, and two special purpose vehicles (SPVs), Taiping 26 and Taiping 27, ordered two 175,000-cbm LNG carriers. Each is worth $235 million.

Jiangnan will deliver the first vessel by March 2027 and the second ship by July 2027.
