HD Hyundai Mipo clinches order for LNG bunkering duo

South Korea’s HD Hyundai Mipo has won a new order to build two liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering vessels.

HD Hyundai Mipo said in a stock exchange filing that it would build the vessels for an unidentified firm in Europe.

The shipbuilder said the contract is worth 270.6 billion won. This is about $195 million or $97.5 million per vessel.

According to HD Hyundai Mipo, the vessels will have a capacity of 18,000 cbm.

The LNG bunkering ships are scheduled for delivery by November 2027.

LNG Prime could not immediately find out who ordered these LNG bunkering vessels.

One source said that UK-based LNG giant Shell could be behind this order, as the company had been working on a deal to order up to four LNG bunkering vessels for some time.

Brokers also said after the order that Spain’s Ibaizabal ordered these vessels, backed by a charter deal with Shell.

LNG bunkering vessel orders

Since September last year, Hyundai Mipo has won orders for up to 13 LNG bunkering vessels, including these vessels.

Before this contract, HD Hyundai Mipo secured an order for four LNG bunkering vessels tied to Greece’s Evalend Shipping.

These LNG bunkering ships are scheduled for delivery by September 2028.

In November last year, Hyundai Mipo also secured an order for four LNG bunkering vessels with a capacity of 18,000 cbm.

Moreover, HD Hyundai Mipo won an order in October 2024 to build one LNG bunkering vessel with a capacity of 12,500 cbm.

Before this contract for one LNG bunkering vessel, Hyundai Mipo won an order to build up to two LNG bunkering ships with a capacity of 18,000 cbm.
