HD Hyundai Samho bags new LNG-powered containership order

South Korea’s HD Hyundai Samho has secured a new order to build LNG-fueled container vessels.

Hyundai Samho’s parent, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering, said on Friday that the shipbuilder will build two container vessels for an unidentified owner in Oceania.

The order is worth 386.8 billion won ($281 million), or about $140.5 million per vessel.

HD Hyundai Samho is expected to deliver these containerships by March 2028.

HD KSOE did not provide further details regarding this order.

Shipbuilding sources said that Evangelos Marinakis-controlled Capital Maritime is probably behind this order for two LNG dual-fuel vessels.

Capital is also behind the order for four LNG dual-fuel containerships, which were ordered at HD Hyundai Samho in April this year.

The vessels will have a capacity of 8,800 teu.

Also, this order is worth 804.9 billion won ($563 million), or about $140.7 million per vessel.

HD Hyundai Samho is expected to deliver these containerships by January 2028.

Including the latest order, HD KSOE and its units have so far this year secured orders for 57 vessels worth approximately $7 billion, or about 38.7 percent of the 2025 order target.

The orders include one LNG carrier, six LNG bunkering vessels, six LPG/ammonia carriers, two ethane carriers, 36 container vessels, and six tankers.
