Hyundai Samho to build one LNG carrier for about $225 million

Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries continues to win orders for LNG carriers and has secured a contract to build one vessel, according to its parent Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering.

KSOE said on Thursday that the deal has a price tag of about 278.3 billion won ($225 million).

HSHI will deliver the LNG carrier by December 2025 to an unidentified European shipowner.

KSOE did not reveal any additional information regarding the LNG carrier which probably has a capacity of 174,000 cbm.

One shipbuilding source told LNG Prime on Thursday that Norway’s Knutsen is behind the order for this newbuild.

The vessel would feature MAN’s ME-GA engine and GTT’s Mark III Flex containment system, the source said.

Knutsen recently also ordered two 174,000-cbm LNG carriers at HSHI, backed by a charter with Poland’s dominant gas firm and LNG importer, PGNiG.

KSOE and its units keep wining orders this year on the back of high demand for LNG carriers and containerships.

The shipbuilding giant won orders for a total of 85 ships worth about $9.74 billion this year, achieving about 55.8 percent of its annual target.

KSOE has set a target for this year of $17.4 billion, compared to $14.9 billion last year.
