India’s largest liquefied natural gas importer, Petronet LNG, said it has received the 3000th shipment at its Dahej import terminal in western Gujarat state.
The Petronet-chartered 138,000-cbm LNG carrier Raahi delivered the 3000th shipment to the Dahej facility on July 7, according to a social media post by Petronet.
The firm did not provide any additional information.
Raahi’s AIS data provided by VesselsValue shows that the LNG carrier previously picked up the cargo at the giant Ras Laffan LNG export complex in Qatar.
Petronet has long-term deals with Qatargas. Last year, Qatar supplied 10.2 million tons out of the total 24 million tons to India, according to GIIGNL data.
Launched back in 2004, the Dahej terminal is India’s largest LNG import facility. It currently has a capacity of 17.5 mtpa, but Petronet is expanding the terminal to have in total 22.5 mtpa capacity.
Petronet is also adding two new 170,000 cbm tanks to the already existing six storage tanks with a total capacity of 932,000 cbm, and a third jetty.
Besides Dahej, Petronet operates the Kochi import terminal in southern Kerala state, which recently received the 300th cargo since its launch in 2013.
Petronet is also working on a new FSRU-based import facility at the Gopalpur port in Odisha, as it looks to establish its presence on the eastern coast of the country.
Earlier this year, Petronas hinted that it could build its fourth LNG terminal as well.
