Inpex announced on Thursday that its unit Inpex Japan kicked off LNG supplies to Rengo’s Kanazu plant in Awara, Fukui, using LNG tank trucks in January 2026.
This marks the first instance in which Inpex supplies LNG domestically using its own LNG tank trucks, which are operated by Inpex Logistics, an Inpex Japan group company, the company said.
Through this LNG supply arrangement, the plant has switched its fuel source from coal to LNG, which is expected to “significantly” contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, according to the firm.
“The launch of this LNG supply business is expected to contribute to the expansion of Inpex’s natural gas and LNG business as set forth in Iinpex Vision 2035, formulated in February 2025,” the company added.
In Japan, Inpex operates the Naoetsu LNG import terminal in Niigata prefecture with a maximum capacity of 8.25 million cbm/day.
Inpex is also the operator of the Ichthys LNG export plant in Australia, which shipped 112 LNG cargoes last year.
In addition, the company is working on the Abadi LNG project, and it recently received environmental approval from the Indonesian government.
