Jiangnan plans to deliver first LNG carrier to Adnoc in December

China’s Jiangnan Shipyard aims to deliver the first 175,000-cbm LNG carrier it is building for a unit of UAE’s Abu Dhabi National Oil Co (Adnoc) in December this year, one month ahead of schedule.

Jiangnan revealed this in a statement issued on Thursday announcing the vessel’s keel-laying ceremony.

The ceremony for the LNG carrier (H2700) took place on May 5 and it was attended by officials from Adnoc Logistics & Services, Adnoc Gas, DNV, GTT, and others, CSSC’s Jiangnan said.

Jiangan said it has completed the whole ship structure erection work, and the shaft, propeller, and rudder systems have been installed.

CCS and outfitting installations will be almost completed in dock period and pre-commissioning is expected to start, it said.

This is the first of six LNG carriers Adnoc L&S ordered during 2022 from Jiangnan, and they will all be delivered until 2026.

The entire order is worth more than $1.2 billion.

These “LNG Jumbo” dual-fuel carriers feature GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane system and a partial reliquefaction system.

Besides these vessels, LNG Prime reported in January, citing shipbuilding sources, that Adnoc is looking to order LNG carriers for its planned LNG terminal in Al Ruwais.

Sources said at the time that Adnoc issued a tender inviting offers from yards in China and South Korea for six firm and also four optional standard-size LNG carrier newbuilds.
