Samsung Heavy hands over another LNG carrier to NYK and Geogas

South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries has delivered another liquefied natural gas tanker to a joint venture consisting of NYK and Geogas LNG.

France LNG Shipping took delivery of the 174,000-cbm LNG Endeavour on Wednesday, according to the vessel’s manager Gazocean, a unit of Japan’s NYK.

France’s TotalEnergies has chartered this vessel under a long-term contract.

The 293 meters long LNG Endeavour joins other two sister vessels LNG Enterprise and LNG Adventure, both delivered this year and on charter to TotalEnergies.

The JV also took delivery of Elisa Laurus in May last year. This vessel serves EDF under long-term charter.

Gazocean, the manager of all of the four vessels, says LNG Endeavour features GTT’s Mark III Flex cargo containment system and WinGD’s X-DF engines.

For its maiden voyage, the vessel, which flies the French flag, will have onboard 28 crew members including 8 French officers.

Also, two new LNG carriers will join this fleet in the coming period. One LNG tanker will join by the end of 2021 and the other in the first quarter of 2022, Gazocean said.

The vessel manager also said that the delivery of the newest LNG carrier coincides with the acquisition of a 50 percent stake in the company by Geogas.

To remind, NYK bought Gazocean from partner TotalEnergies in October last year. Prior to the deal, NYK held a 20 percent stake in Gazocean.
