Samsung Heavy announced on Friday that it will build the LNG carrier for an unidentified owner in Oceania.
Moreover, the order is valued at 368 billion won ($255 million).
The shipbuilder will deliver the LNG carrier by May 2028.
Samsung Heavy did not provide further details regarding the new contract.
Shipbuilding sources said that Denmark’s Celsius Tankers, a unit of Celsius Shipping, appears to have returned to Samsung to order another LNG carrier.
LNG Prime could not verify this immediately.
Celisus currently has three more 180,000-cbm LNG carriers on order at SHI, scheduled for delivery in 2027 and 2028, according to its website.
In total, Celsius has 23 LNG carriers in its fleet. With this vessel, it will be 24.
SHI orders
Including this order, Samsung Heavy has secured $1.9 billion in orders for eight vessels this year.
This represents 14 percent of its annual order target of $13.9 billion.
Moreover, this is the second LNG carrier order Samsung Heavy announced in 2026.
Last month, Samsung Heavy won an order for two LNG carriers from an unidentified owner in Bermuda.
This order is valued at 727.2 billion won ($505 million), or approximtely $252.5 million per vessel, and the shipbuilder will deliver these LNG carriers by January 2029.
Shipbuilding sources told LNG Prime that interests associated with JP Morgan are likely behind this order.
Last year, Samsung Heavy secured orders for 11 LNG carriers.
