According to a statement by Seatrium, the letter of intent includes the conversion, life extension, and repairs of three LNG carriers into FSRUs.
This involves the installation of regasification modules, spread-mooring systems, and the integration of critical supporting systems such as cargo handling, offloading, utility, electrical, and automation systems.
Under the LOI, Seatrium will also carry out the integration of four new generation powerships, with an option for two additional units.
Karpowership will deliver the hulls and key equipment for the four powerships to Seatrium Singapore, where integration works will begin in the first quarter of 2027.
Seatrium’s scope of work includes mechanical and electrical, equipment integration, mechanical completion, and pre-commissioning.
The company did not provide the pricing details of these deals.
“We are proud to deepen our long-term partnership with Seatrium as we continue to grow our powership and FSRU fleet to meet evolving global energy needs,” Gokhan Kocak, Karpowership’s chief technical operations officer, said.
He said that Karpowership is developing its 3rd generation powerships with a modular system that can be adapted based on project needs.
The new design will allow for the integration of advanced technologies such as CCUS (carbon capture, utilisation, and storage) systems or turbines when required, Kocak said.
Ten FSRU conversions
Alvin Gan, executive VP, repairs and upgrades at Seatrium, noted that the firm already delivered four FSRUs, with a fifth due later this month.
Two more units are underway.
Including the three new units, the number of converted FSRUs will reach ten units.
Last year, Seatrium secured a contract from Karpowership to convert three LNG carriers into FSRUs.
The conversion deal included an option for a fourth LNG carrier.
Kinetics, an initiative by Karpowership, ordered the conversion of the fourth unit in July this year.
The four delivered FSRUs are Karmol LNGT Powership Africa, Asia, Europe, and most recently, Antarctica.
KARMOL, a joint venture of Karpowership and Japan’s MOL, recently took delivery of its fourth FSRU, KARMOL LNGT Powership Antarctica, from Seatrium.
Seatrium converted the 1989-built 127,525-cbm LNG carrier, Northwest Sanderling, into an FSRU. This vessel previously served the NWS LNG project in Australia.
