Shell’s India unit inks LNG pact with Seros Logistics

Shell’s India unit is joining forces with Seros Logistics to deliver liquefied natural gas (LNG) via trucks to customers across the country.

As part of a ten-year contract, Seros would be the logistics partner for Shell Energy India for “doorstep delivery” of LNG across the country, the Indian firm said in a statement on Wednesday.

The partnership aims to “lead the country towards an environment-friendly future while developing a larger market for this green fuel,” the firm said.

In January this year, Shell Energy India launched a truck loading unit at its Hazira LNG import terminal in Gujarat, the firm’s first move into small-scale infrastructure.

The government of India is promoting natural gas through various policy and regulatory reforms towards making the country a gas-based economy by increasing the share of the fuel in the primary energy mix to 15 percent.

Small-scale LNG can play an important role in realizing this target, Shell Energy India previously said.

The firm owns and operates the 5 mtpa LNG import terminal at Hazira. The terminal has been in operation since 2005 and received more than 600 LNG cargoes to date.
