SWS launches second LNG-powered bulker for EPS

China’s Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding said it has launched the second LNG-powered Newcastlemax bulk carrier for Singapore’s Eastern Pacific Shipping.

CSSC’s SWS said in a statement it floated out the 209,000-dwt Mount Nova Terra on November 1.

To remind, the yard launched the first LNG-powered bulker in this batch, Mount Tourmaline, in September.

SWS claims this is the world’s first LNG-powered dual-fuel Newcastlemax bulk carrier.

Idan Ofer’s EPS ordered these two bulk carriers at state-owned SWS in December 2019.

The vessels are about 300 meters long, 50 meters wide, and with a designed draft of 18.4 meters, according to EPS.

EPS expects to take delivery of these ships in 2022.

These two ships and three more LNG-powered Newcastlemax bulk carriers will go on a charter to Australian miner BHP. The two firms signed the charter deal last year.
