Thailand’s PTT to supply LNG to Centrica

Thailand's PTT has signed a heads of agreement to supply a unit of UK-based energy firm Centrica with liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Asia.

Under the HoA, PTT International Trading (PTTT) will supply LNG to Centrica LNG in Asia for 10 years, starting from 2028, according to a PTT statement.

The state-owned firm stated that this is PTTT’s first long-term LNG sales contract outside of Thailand.

PTT did not provide further details regarding the agreement.

Thailand currently imports LNG from various countries via two import terminals operated by PTT.

These terminals include the first Map Ta Put LNG terminal (LMPT 1) with a capacity of 11.5 mtpa and the second Map Ta Phut LMPT2 LNG terminal, also known as the Nong Fab LNG terminal, with a capacity of 7.5 mtpa.

Thailand’s Gulf and PTT Tank Terminal, a unit of PTT, also expect to launch commercial operations at their LNG terminal in Map Ta Phut, Thailand’s third such facility, in the first quarter of 2029.

Centrica said in a separate statement later on Friday that this agreement marks a “significant step forward” in Centrica’s strategic efforts to grow its LNG portfolio.

“The agreement provides access to diverse markets in Asia, whilst deepening Centrica’s relationship with PTT, an important partner in Asia., the company said.

Centrica signed a 15-year LNG supply deal with Brazil’s state-owned energy firm Petrobras in February this year.

Under the sales and purchase agreement, Petrobras will buy 0.8 mtpa of LNG for 15 years, starting in 2027.

Centrica said at the time that the agreement comprises approximately 30 percent of its US portfolio and will be sourced from Centrica’s Sabine Pass and Delfin supply agreements.
