Van Oord welcomes third LNG-fueled dredger in its fleet

Dutch marine contractor Van Oord has taken delivery of its third and final LNG-powered trailing suction hopper dredger, Vox Alexia, in Singapore.

Seatrium said in a statement that its unit Seatrium New Energy, previously known as Keppel FELS, delivered the dredger to Van Oord Ship Management during a sailaway event held on May 26.

The handover of Vox Alexia, the final unit of a series of three LNG dual-fuel dredgers, follows the deliveries of first and second dredger newbuilds, Vox Ariane and Vox Apolonia, in April and December 2022, respectively.

Following delivery, Vox Alexia will set off from Singapore for further preparatory trials by Van Oord prior to service commencement later this year, it said.

Such as its sister vessels, Vox Alexia has a hopper capacity of 10,500 cbm.

It has a high degree of automation for its marine and dredging systems, as well as an onboard data acquisition and integrated control system to enhance efficiency and operational cost savings.

The TSHD has one suction pipe with submerged e-driven dredge pump, two shore discharge dredge pumps, and five bottom doors.

In addition, the vessel has a total installed power of 14,500 kW and can accommodate 22 persons.
