Wartsila scores contract for LNG bunkering quartet

Wartsila's gas solutions business, which is being acquired by German private equity investor Mutare, has secured a contract to supply cargo handling and fuel supply systems for four LNG bunkering vessels in China.

According to a statement by Wartsila, China’s Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering will build the vessels for GSX Energy.

Warstila said that two vessels were booked in the first quarter of this year, followed by the booking of the addition of two vessels in the second quarter.

In addition to the complete LNG cargo handling and fuel gas supply equipment, Wartsila will also design and provide engineering for the systems.

Equipment deliveries for the first two vessels will commence in December this year.

Wartsila did not provide further details.

In October last year, CIMC SOE announced that it had secured new orders from Purus and GSX Energy to build LNG bunkering and supply vessels.

The Chinese shipbuilder will construct two 20,000-cbm LNG bunkering vessels for GSX Energy.

This contract also included two optional vessels.

Most recently, CIMC SOE announced orders for two 20,000-cbm and one 18,900-cbm LNG bunkering and supply vessels, without naming the clients.

According to CIMC SOE, to date, it has secured 10 orders for 20,000-cbm LNG bunkering vessels and three orders for 18,900-cbm bunkering vessels.
