Wuhu to build one LNG-powered carrier for Canada’s McAsphalt

China’s Wuhu Shipyard has won a contract to build one LNG-powered bitumen carrier for a unit of Canada’s McAsphalt.

Wuhu said on Thursday the contract with McAsphalt Marine Transportation also includes an option for an additional vessel.

The 11,700-cbm asphalt and oil product tanker features dual-fuel propulsion but also a power battery pack, according to Wuhu.

In addition, Sweden’s FKAB will design the BV-classed 140 meters long vessel.

The vessel will mainly transport asphalt in the Great Lakes region located along the Canada-US border but also coastal areas on Canada’s east coast, Wuhu said.

The Chinese yard did not reveal the price tag of the order.

This new order for Wuhu follows a contract for two Continental Bitumen’s LNG-powered bitumen carriers in January this year.
