The shipping firm said on Monday that the total charter hire consideration is about $2.3 billion, and the 11,500-teu vessels will serve across its global trades.
According to ZIM, Containers Ventures Holdings, an affiliate of the TMS Group, will charter seven of the vessels to ZIM.
In addition, a shipping company affiliated with Kenon Holdings, which was ZIM’s largest shareholder until the end of 2024, will charter the remaining three vessels to ZIM.
ZIM said the vessels will be constructed at China’s Zhoushan Changhong Shipyard, with delivery expected between 2027 and 2028.
The shipping firm noted that it has received all 46 newbuilds it contracted in 2021 and 2022.
Back in 2021, Seaspan and ZIM signed a charter deal for 10 15,000-teu vessels. South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries built these vessels.
Besides these ten ships, Seaspan and ZIM also signed charter deals for 15 7,000-teu LNG-powered container vessels.
China’s Jiangsu New Yangzi, a part of Yangzijiang Shipbuilding, built these ships.
DNV’s most recent data shows that there are currently 166 LNG-powered containerships in operation.
Moreover, shipping firms ordered 338 LNG-powered containerships.
