Altrad lands Ichthys LNG contract from Inpex

A unit of Japan’s Inpex has contracted Altrad Services to work on its Ichthys LNG export project in Australia.

According to a statement last week, Altrad Services will perform coating and insulation work at the Bladin Point Ichthys LNG plant near Darwin.

Under the four-year contract, the firm’s scope of services will include work pack preparation, planning, coordination, supervision, provision of access, and execution of coating and insulation works.

Altrad Services, a unit of France-based Altrad Group, said it has supported the Ichthys LNG project for years and this contract reinforces its “strong” relationship with Inpex, while also enabling the company to directly deliver its services to Inpex.

The firm did not disclose the financial details of the contract.

It previously won contracts from Ichthys EPC contractor, JKC Australia, to provide miscellaneous painting and insulation works, and maintenance contractor, TraceJV, to provide maintenance activities, according to its website.

Earlier this month, Australia’s MMA Offshore and Dutch Heerema Marine Contractors also revealed they had secured contracts for the offshore part of the Ichthys LNG export project.

The Ichthys project shipped 117 LNG cargoes in 2021, down by five cargoes when compared to the year before.

Besides LNG cargoes, the 8.9 mtpa plant at Bladin Point exported 21 condensate cargoes and 32 LPG cargoes, down by one and two shipments respectfully. The project also shipped 32 offshore condensate cargoes, compared to 34 in 2020.

Natural gas arrives in Darwin from the giant Ichthys field offshore Western Australia via an 890-kilometer export pipeline.

Ichthys LNG is a joint venture between operator Inpex and major partner France’s TotalEnergies.

Other partners include Australian units of CPC Corporation Taiwan, Tokyo Gas, Osaka Gas, Kansai Electric Power, JERA and Toho Gas.
