Chevron Australia, a unit of US energy giant Chevron, announced the milestone cargo in a social media post on Tuesday.
According to Chevron Australia, the 2017-built Asia Integrity set sail on June 2 carrying approximately 157,000 cubic metres of LNG bound for Mizushima, Japan.
“Since the first cargo was shipped in October 2017, our dedicated Wheatstone team has continued to safely and reliably deliver natural gas to our closest trading partners across the Asia Pacific region,” the company said.
“At the same time, they’ve also helped provide the energy that powers Western Australia, supplying around 20 percent of the state’s domestic gas,” Chevron Australia said.
Wheatstone’s onshore facilities are located 12 kilometres west of Onslow on the Pilbara coast of Western Australia.
The foundation project consists of two LNG trains with a combined capacity of 8.9 million tonnes per annum (mtpa), and a domestic gas plant.
Also, the offshore processing platform is located at a depth of 70 meters, about 225 km from the coast.
The offshore facilities gather and partially process gas and associated condensate from the Wheatstone, Iago, Julimar, and Brunello gas fields, delivering it onshore via a trunkline for further processing.
The project was sanctioned in late 2011, with first shipment of LNG announced in October 2017.
Chevron operates the project with a 64.14 stake. Other shareholders include KUFPEC (13.4 percent), Woodside (13 percent), and Kyushu Electric (1.46 percent), together with PE Wheatstone, part-owned by Jera (8 percent).
In December last year, Chevron and Australian LNG player Woodside agreed to an asset swap under which Woodside will exit the Wheatstone LNG project and Chevron will sell its stake in the NWS project.
