BGN delivers its first LNG cargo to Germany, secures Egypt deal

Switzerland-based energy trader BGN has completed its first LNG delivery to Germany, while simultaneously securing a deal to supply Egypt with LNG.

BGN stated in a press release that it has discharged its inaugural physical LNG cargo at the Deutsche ReGas-operated Mukran FSRU-based facility.

“This milestone, known in the industry as “touching the ice,” marks BGN’s official entry into the physical LNG market and signals a new era in the company’s global energy portfolio,” BGN said.

The trader said it used the chartered vessel Celsius Gandhinagar to deliver this shipment.

According to its AIS data provided by VesselsValue, Celsius Gandhinagar delivered the shipment on June 22 from Venture Global LNG’s Plaquemines LNG plant in Louisiana.

The Mukran LNG terminal, which currently consists of the 2009-built 145,000-cbm, FSRU Neptune, reached an all-time high in quarterly supply performance in the second quarter of 2025.

Besides this delivery, BGN also said it was selected alongside leading global energy companies to support Egypt’s “historic” LNG procurement program.

BGN said this initiative is crucial to supporting Egypt’s energy security by meeting the surging domestic demand and increasing power needs.

The company did not provide further information regarding the deal.

Several reports said last month that Egypt has signed agreements with several energy firms and trading houses to buy up to 160 LNG cargoes through the end of 2026.

Egypt’s is deployiing chartered FSRUs to meet soaring gas demand for cooling and avoid power outages.

“While we remain selective, these early moves signal our commitment to growing LNG flows alongside our broader energy portfolio,” Wael Amer, BGN’s COO said.
