Botas seals 10-year LNG deals with Eni, SEFE

Turkiye’s state-owned natural gas and LNG firm Botas has signed 10-year deals to buy LNG from Italian energy firm Eni and German gas importer SEFE.

Turkiye’s Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar announced the signing of the sales and purchase deals during the World LNG Summit & Awards in Istanbul on Wednesday.

He said that Eni will supply to Botas a total of 5 billion cubic meters of LNG over 10 years, starting in 2028.

Bayraktar said this agreement will ensure that Turkiye’s increased demand during the winter period.

Eni also said in a separate statement that it has agreed to supply Botas approximately 0.4 million tons per annum (mtpa) of LNG for 10 years starting from 2028.

The Italian firm noted that this contract follows a three-year deal signed by the two firms in September 2025, for the supply of approximately 0.4 mtpa of LNG starting in November 2025.

The agreement is Eni’s first long-term LNG sale to Turkiye, confirming the growing role of LNG in supporting the country’s energy needs.

It is in line with Eni’s strategy to diversify its global LNG footprint, expanding its customer base in markets with high potential, and growing its LNG portfolio to approximately 20 mtpa by 2030, leveraging its projects in Congo, Mozambique, US, Indonesia and other countries, Eni said.

In addition to this Eni deal, Botas agreed to buy from SEFE a total of 6 billion cubic meters of LNG over 10 winter periods starting in 2028, Bayraktar said.

He noted that this agreement will strengthen Turkiye’s supply security and diversity, while taking the energy partnership between the two companies to a strategic level.

SEFE also said in a separate statement that it will deliver approximately five million tonnes of LNG, with deliveries scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2028.

The LNG supplies will be delivered from SEFE’s growing global LNG portfolio, which includes a stable foundation of long-term US LNG volumes, it said.

Bayraktar noted at the mentioned conference that Tukiye has increased its LNG regasification capacity fivefold since 2016, reaching 161 million cubic meters per day, as part of its plans to boost energy security, while the country is also working to become an LNG supply hub.

He said that Turkiye signed LNG supply agreements for 106 billion cubic meters this year, including these new deals.
