Bulgartransgaz awards LNG cargo tender to DEPA

Bulgaria's state-owned gas system operator Bulgartransgaz, a unit of Bulgarian Energy Holding, has awarded its LNG supply tender to Greece's DEPA.

State-owned DEPA said in a statement last week that it had won the international LNG supply tender held by Bulgartransgaz, submitting the most competitive bid among participants.

The tender process was conducted through the Bulgarian energy exchange (Balkan Gas Hub) and concerned the supply of 500 GWh (0.5 TWh) of LNG for the operation of Bulgaria’s national natural gas transmission system.

DEPA said that the cargo will be delivered to the FSRU-based terminal in Alexandroupolis, Greece, during the first ten days of August, where the cargo will be regasified before being shipped to Bulgaria.

The company did not provide further details.

DEPA is a shareholder in Gastrade, the operator of the FSRU-based facility, along with Bulgartransgaz, Copelouzou, DESFA, DEPA, and GasLog.

The FSRU-based LNG import terminal is currently undergoing planned three-month maintenance until the end of June.

Last month, Bulgartransgaz announced plans to launch its first LNG supply tender.

Previously, Bulgaria’s gas supplier Bulgargaz, which is also a unit of BEH, issued several LNG tenders to purchase cargoes via Greek and Turkish LNG terminals.

For the period until the end of the current gas year and for the next gas year, Bulgartransgaz said it plans to purchase 1,500,000 MWh of LNG, covering the period from July 2026 to September 2027 (inclusive).
