NFE inks second FSRU charter deal with Egypt’s EGAS

Egypt’s EGAS has signed a new deal with US LNG player New Fortress Energy to charter a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).

NFE said on Tuesday that its unit has executed a five-year agreement for the deployment of the 138,350-cbm Energos Winter with state-owned EGAS.

The FSRU will operate at EGAS’ LNG import terminal located at Damietta, Egypt.

This is NFE’s second FSRU stationed in Egypt.

Energos Winter will join Energos Eskimo in Egypt as early as August of this year, according to NFE.

In June, the 160,000-cbm FSRU Energos Eskimo arrived in Egypt from Jordan.

EGAS signed a deal with NFE in December 2024 to charter Energos Eskimo, with a regasification capacity of up to 750 million cubic feet per day.

Also, the charter agreement is for a ten-year term.

Energos Infrastructure, a part of US asset manager Apollo, owns this FSRU.

This is also the case with Energos Winter.

NFE charters this FSRU from Energos Infrastructure, and it probably sub-chartered the unit to EGAS.

Egypt FSRUs

These two FSRUs join the 170,000-cbm Hoegh Galleon, which is located at the Sumed port in Ain Sokhna.

In May, Norwegian FSRU player Hoegh Evi signed a new charter deal with Egypt’s EGAS to deploy a converted FSRU in Egypt.

Hoegh Evi will convert the LNG carrier Hoegh Gandria to a floating storage and regasification unit.

The FSRU Hoegh Gandria will work in the Port of Sumed from the fourth quarter of 2026 and will supply up to 1,000 mmscf/day of peak LNG regasification capacity.

It will replace the FSRU Hoegh Galleon, which was deployed to Egypt in July 2024, on an interim charter from Australian Industrial Energy (AIE) and Hoegh Evi.

Earlier this year, Germany’s Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy also signed a deal with EGAS to charter the 174,000-cbm FSRU, Energos Power.

Most recently, state-owned German LNG terminal operator DET sub-chartered the 2021-built 174,000-cbm FSRU, Energos Force, for deployment in Jordan.

EGAS is said to be behind this charter as well.

In addition, EGAS signed a charter deal with Turkiye’s Botas to deploy one of Turkiye’s operational FSRUs in Egypt.

This FSRU will work in Egypt for seasonal LNG imports.
