Samsung Heavy awards new LNG tank job to GTT

French LNG containment specialist GTT has secured a new order from South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries.

GTT received the order in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Under the contract, GTT will design the tanks of one 174,000-cbm LNG carrier.

According to a GTT statement, the vessel will be fitted with GTT’s Mark III Flex containment system.

GTT said delivery of the vessel is scheduled for the second quarter of 2027, but it did not provide further information.

Samsung Heavy recently secured an order worth about $259 million for one LNG carrier.

The shipbuilder said it will build the LNG carrier for an unidentified owner in Asia.

Samsung Heavy will deliver the LNG carrier by June 2027.

Shipbuilding sources said K Line ordered this vessel, while the LNG carrier would serve a charter deal with India’s GAIL.

Prior to this order, GTT secured a tank design from Samsung Heavy for one LNG carrier in October, and another one in September.

GTT booked tank design orders for 68 LNG carriers in January-September of this year.

The company received orders for 73 LNG carriers last year, down from record 162 orders for LNG carriers in 2022 and higher than 68 orders in 2021.
