Nordsol announced on Tuesday that it will provide equipment for biogas upgrading and liquefaction for Vireo’s Lista Biogass plant at Lista Fly- og Næringspark in Farsund, southern Norway.
Building on the cooperation at the Hardanger facility, this second project with Vireo marks “another important step” in expanding Norway’s liquefied biogas (LBG, bio-LNG) infrastructure and converting organic residues into “clean” fuel for heavy transport and industry, Nordsol said.
Nordsol’s patented small-scale liquefaction technology will be integrated directly with biogas upgrading at the site, enabling “efficient, decentralised production of high-purity LBG.”
The Dutch tech firm did not provide the contract price.
Last month, Vireo, backed by Swen Impact Fund for Transition 2, an infrastructure fund
managed by SWEN Capital Partners, took a final investment decision (FID) to proceed with the development of the Lista Biogass facility.
The facility will handle approximately 160,000 cubic meters of feedstock annually, based on a diversified mix of manure, fish waste, and food fats.
Vireo expects total annual production to reach around 90 GWh of bio-LNG.
The firm has secured long-term financing for the project with ING and SpareBank 1 SørNorge, which are already financing the first project of Vireo in Hardanger.
Moreover, Finnish state-owned energy firm Gasum will purchase all bio-LNG produced at the new facility, as it will from the Hardanger plant.
Vireo expects to start work on the new facility in the first quarter of 2026 and complete it in the first quarter of 2028.
