Gasum to open new LNG filling station in Norway

Finland-based Gasum will launch a new LNG and CNG filling station in Norway this summer.

Once opened in early August, it would become the first gas station in the Norwegian city of Trondheim, Gasum said.

Gasum’s northernmost gas filling station in Norway will open in Heggstadmoen, some 12 km to the south of Trondheim.

The area is a heavy traffic hub, which gives the station an “ideal” location, integrating Gasum’s liquified gas filling station network in the Oslo region with stations such as Östersund and Umeå in the northern parts of Sweden, the firm said.

Moreover, the station sits on land owned by retail chain Coop. It would supply the firm with renewable biogas for its transport partners and help slash emissions from heavy transport.

Norway has set a national goal of reducing emissions by at least 50% by 2030.

“By reducing carbon emissions from road traffic and by using renewable fuels, such as biogas, the industry believes a 70% reduction in total emissions can be reached if 20% of the heavy transport market switches to biogas,” Gasum said.
